Fuel Tank Filters & De-Aerators

Fuel storage tank filters for removing impurities

The cleanliness of fuel in your storage tank is becoming increasingly problematic, both in regards to the presence of particles and water. Contaminated fuel can have disastrous consequences, with costly downtime and maintenance of vehicles being refuelled with dirty fuel. Some vehicle manufacturers are now even voiding warranties should the dispensing system not have a fuel tank filter installed. Our fuel storage tank filter range from Piusi, Cim-Tek, Goldenrod and Donaldson include models for removing both water and particles from your fuel, and are available in a number of different micron ratings.

FAQs

A fuel tank filter can remove and water and particles from the fuel to stop fuel contamination. It is best practice is to have a water and a particle filter on your refuelling system. Fuel tank filters differ on the size of the particles that they can filter out of the fuel, which is measured in microns. We offer a wide range of fuel tank filters for a variety of particle sizes and flow rates.

The increasing bio-content in today’s diesel means that the fuel in storage tanks often contains small, but problematic water levels which can cause a nasty sludge to appear. Water contamination is usually one of the main reasons for costly damage to vehicle engines and reduced fuel efficiency, but an effective water filter can be one of the best ways to prevent this.

The water tank filter removes any free water from the dispensed fuel, which protects your vehicle engine from failure. Whiles this filter can get a range of particles, you should also consider a particle fuel filter for removing particles down to finer microns

The best fuel tank filter depends on what you are trying to remove from the fuel – water or particles, the particle size you would like filtered out and the flow rate of the refuelling system you are using. If you need more assistance when choosing your fuel tank filter, contact the team on 0121 351 4445.

If your pump is too fast for the maximum flow rate of the filter, the filter will keep blocking leaving you unable to dispense. This may also result in the pump running in partial bypass, causing premature wear on the pump vanes and windings. An example of an extreme case is where you have a 50lpm filter being used with a 150lpm pump, it may even blow the filter element inside rendering it useless. Therefore, if your pump is 70lpm, your filter must be able to cope with at least that.

This depends on the condition of your fuel. The dirtier the fuel in your tank, the quicker the filter will get full. Having spare filter elements on site will reduce downtime if your filter is full and blocks.

Yes, the fuel circulation unit can be retrofitted to an existing tank if the installer fits the required drop pipes at the front and back of the tank, ensuring complete circulation of the contents.

When installed onto an existing tank, the contents should first undergo a fuel polishing process, as there is a chance that the biofilm that the recirculation unit works to prevent may already have been formed.
