GoldenRod Filters

The Official UK & Ireland Agent for Goldenrod fuel filters

About the product

The GoldenRod 495 Fuel Tank Filter is the particle filter for diesel from the leading filtration brand in the agricultural market. Whilst used within many industries for filtering the impurities on a diesel storage tank, thanks to being suitable for gravity-fed installations as well as compatible pumping systems, GoldenRod fuel filters are widely recognised amongst the farming community.

The 495 fuel storage tank filters benefit from a paper cartridge element inside a clear bowl with a drain point, allowing for the viewing and subsequent removal of any loose debris or particles that have been removed.

All GoldenRod filter components including the replacement GoldenRod 470-5 element are available individually as replacements (see accessories table).

Features of the GoldenRod 495 Fuel Tank Filter:

  • 10 micron particle fuel filter
  • Paper filter element
  • Maximum flow rate of 95litres Per Min

GoldenRod 470-5 Element Only

The GoldenRod 470-5 Fuel Filter Element is the replacement, 10 micron paper cartidge for the GoldenRod 495 fuel tank filter. You should change your GoldenRod filter element when you notice the flow rate of your system dropping, as this indicates the fuel storage tank filter is getting full.

We would recommend using the GoldenRod filter wrench when changing the paper element to limit the risk of cracking of the bowl whilst trying to screw it with force, and ensure it is screwed back on tight enough to prevent leaks.

GoldenRod Fuel Filter Housing 495-4

The GoldenRod Fuel Filter Housing is essentially a replacement bowl for use with GoldenRod filters, in the case of wear and tear/cracking of the existing casing. The Goldenrod filter elemet housing is transparent for inspection of the filtered impurities and complete with a drain point for easy removal of these.

The biggest cause of the filter bowl cracking is by applying too much pressure when trying to screw it off with force in order to replace the filter element. We recommend buying the GoldenRod filter wrench, a tool specially designed to remove and replace the bowl without causing damage.

Stainless Steel 40 Mesh Strainer 470-15 Only

The GoldenRod Mesh Filter can be used in place of the paper cartridge that comes as standard with the GoldenRod 495 fuel filters. Thanks to its stainless steel construction, this mesh strainer GoldenRod filter can be emptied and cleaned of debris as it starts to collect impurities from the fuel. This makes it reusable rather than having to be replaced as the element gets full.

As it is only able to filter our larger particles in comparison to the other Goldenrod fuel tank filter elements, the mesh version is often seen used in conjunction with the paper cartridges. With the mesh version installed inline first, it is able to catch any large contaminants that have made their way into the tank such as rubble, grass or hay, leaving the paper one to filter out the smaller bits. This prevents premature blocking of new filter elements. The mesh element is also sometimes used temporarily in place of the paper cartridge when using a tank that hasn't been used in a while and the user isn't sure on the fuel quality, or where used cooking oils are being recycled to make biodiesel and is likely to contain larger contaminants.

GoldenRod Wrench 491 For Easy Removal of Bowl

The GoldenRod Fuel Tank Filter Wrench is a handy tool, which enables the easy removal and fitting of the GoldenRod bowl/filter housing when the user needs to replace the filter element inside. It benefits from small grooves that fit over the notches on the GoldenRod bowls, which are also compatible with the fitting of similar brands of bowl filters.

The use of the filter wrench limits of the risk of cracking of the bowl whilst trying to apply pressure to screw it off. It also ensures that when it is screwed back on after replacing the element that it is tight enough to prevent leaks.

Why do I need a fuel tank filter?

Once stored fuel can easily become contaminated by numerous factors such as dirt, small metal particles and other abrasive components. These particles in your fuel can cause damage for your pump as well as serious engine problems and result in costly downtime, repairs and inconvenience. This fuel tank filter will help prevent all of these from happening because it filters the dispensed fuel and separates the particles. As part of the fuel filtration, you should also consider water contamination, and GoldenRod 496 water tank filter can be the perfect solution for this common issue.

How long should a fuel filter last before I need to replace the element?

Unfortunately, there is no exact answer to this question as it all depends on the level of contamination in your fuel. The dirtier the fuel in your tank, the quicker the filter will get full. We advise that you always have a spare filter element on site so that you experience no downtime if your filter is full and blocks.

If you’re experiencing your filter elements blocking a lot quicker than usual, then this may be down to changes in the bio content of diesel. Read our article to find out more.

How can I extend the life of my filter element?

Filters need replacing when they have done their job by filtering out impurities from fuel. Therefore, the dirtier the fuel that passes through them, the quicker they will get full and need replacing. One of the tips we can give is to fit the cleanable, stainless steel GoldenRod mesh filter element.

By fitting this inline first, it is able to catch any large contaminants, leaving the paper one to filter out the smaller yet still damaging bits, therefore protecting it from having to be replaced as often.

Why is it important to know your pump flow rate when choosing your filter?

If your pump is too fast for the maximum flow rate of the filter, the filter will keep blocking leaving you unable to dispense. This may also result in the pump running in partial bypass, causing premature wear on the pump vanes and windings. In extreme cases where you have say a 50lpm filter being used with a 150lpm pump, it may even blow the filter element inside rendering it useless. Therefore, if your pump is 70lpm, your filter must be able to cope with atleast that.
